The first Mount Washington FlickR event took place last weekend on Saturday and Sunday October 3rd and 4th. However, we would like to open up the photo contest another weekend so that we can have all submissions by Friday October 16th.

Do a search for Mount Washington on the internet, and you are bombared with ever so slightly different shots of Pittsburgh’s beautiful skyline and three rivers, but did you know that their is more to Mount Washington? That is why we decided on the theme “Beyond the View” for our photo walk.

Take a look at the attached pdf mtwashingtonflickr2 for more details on the event, contest and details on how to submit your photos for judging. We plan to have a showing of the photos and contest winners for our upcoming Light Up Night Event on Friday, November 20,2009.

The walk is rain or shine and can take place day or night. You are encouraged to shoot within the suggested boundaries and try to capture Mount Washington life. For those who would like to talk with other photographers particpating in the walk, or have any questions, Stop by Packs and Dogs at 225 Shiloh Street around 1:00 on October 3rd. Ask for me, Greg Panza, MWCDC Mainstreet Manager and perhaps relax and enjoy Chilli dog, fries, and maybe one or two of over 400 craft beers.

Enjoy and email your photos to gpanza@mwcdc.org if I dont get to meet you.

There’s lots of excitement this weekend in Mount Washington with the annual Run for Roch 5K race this Saturday morning and the Art marketplace soon to follow. The Race begins at 8:45 am in front of the upper station of the Monongahela Incline and finishes up by the parking deck on Shiloh Street. Its a tough race, full of hills and steep grades and the runners need all the encouragement they can. Come and pick your spot along Grandview or Shiloh Street to cheer them on. The Race will have a ceremony immediately following on the parking deck on Shiloh Street until about 11am and the marketplace will begin soon thereafter.

Artists will be showing up a bit early to catch some of the crowds and may finish up a bit early due to the rain that will move in in the late afternoon. Sunday is calling for some rain as well so if you happen to make it for the market and no one is here, be sure to check back on a sunnier day as our event is always weather permitting. Here are some of the highlights you can expect this weekend:
