It was that time, you know the time when dark roots rear their ugly head and become noticeable to the world. Since I had been working in Mount Washington I decided to change it up a bit and patron one of the local salons. I had met Jennifer at a community meeting and decided to give her salon a shot.
When I called to make my appointment, she was extremely accommodating. A week later I was on my way to Boggs Avenue to address my hideous roots. When I walked in, I was greeted by Jennifer and her cousin who works with her conveniently named Jennifer. There was no wait so I was in the chair immediately. After a bunch of bull-gabbing and enough foil in my hair to pick up satellite television, I was getting my hair washed with the yummiest smelling shampoo. For me, like many others, getting my hair washed is like a Zen experience; all I wanted to do was fall asleep, but I was too excited to see my hair.
After my hair was cut, styled, and dried, I felt like a new woman. My highlights were perfect. Jennifer did an awesome job. The best part was that I had fun. There was no pushing to buy products or other services, just an enjoyable a relaxing few hours of salon peace and happiness.
Interview with the Business Owner
Q: Tell me, in short, what your services are?
A: We provide hairstyling services for men, women, and children. Our services include: haircuts, beard trims, color, highlights & lowlights, perms, up do’s, styling, shampoo & sets, conditioning & scalp treatments, and facial waxing.
We also sell hair products. They include: Select Aquage, Pravana, and Redken for Men.
Q: What made you go into business in Mount Washington?
A: I was a hairstylist for 8 years and was unhappy working for other salons. I like the Mount Washington Community and the fact that the residents shop locally for the products and services they need, when they can. I found the perfect location and thought I would give it a try. I’m so glad I did it.
Q: What sets your business apart from other similar business in Pittsburgh?
A: We provide high quality hair services at affordable prices. Out atmosphere is relaxed, fun, and friendly.
Q: Do you have any promotions /events you would like to mention?
A: Anyone who mentions this blog can receive 15% off of any purchase.
Q: Is there anything else you would like to mention in the blog?
A: I have been in business since 2004 and a hairstylist for 13 years. Jennifer Moran, has been a hairstylist at my salon for 1 ½ years. We work hard to make sure everyone who comes in leaves happy.
We were voted “Best Hair Salon in Mt. Washington” in 2009 and 2010 by the Trib Total Media Readers Choice Awards.

Well…so much for being optimistic that we can actually have a sunny Saturday in Pittsburgh during the arts festival. Unfortunately we will once again hold off for this week but will be back the next sunny Saturday, thats a promise! We have so many great new artists and musical performances to share with you and the new light poles on Grandview are looking so nice and are worth a trip to see as well. Contact Greg Panza at MWCDC 412-481-3220 x 203 with any questions.
We’re being optimistic that the rain will stay away long enough this Saturday from 11-6 so that you can come to Mount Washington and experience some of the area’s best artists. This week will bring many different creations such as; Eco Friendly T-shirts, Bare Foot Sandals, Oil Paintings, wood art, and more. There will also be some musicians to set the mood for a day full of art and fun!
Hope to see you on the Mount.

As our event is weather permitting we will not be able to bring you the awesome line up of artists and musicians listed in the post below, but feel free to shop online by clicking on their link. If you really like what you see, come up and see them in person some time soon. Hopefully we’ll have a better weekend next week.
The kick-off of the Mount Washington Art Marketplace was a big success last week. People came in record numbers from near and far to experience some of the region’s best artists and musicians and our unique restaurants and shops along Shiloh Street.
Each week different artists are bringing new and interesting pieces to their tables. Paintings, Jewelry, Woodwork, and other creative designs are amongst the artist’s works.
What will this week bring? Come to Shiloh Street and find out! But remember this ongoing event is weather permitting and the forecast is calling for a 50% chance of thundershowers. If Mother Nature takes care of business early then we may just be delayed a couple hours, but if it’s a complete washout, then perhaps it’s a perfect day to just lounge around the house and take care of some of those chores you have been putting off. We will be here next week with another exciting line up of musicians and artists once again.
