Shiloh Street in Mount Washington is the place to be this Saturday to enjoy some great live music, and stroll through two blocks of art booths which are alongside sidewalk cafes and interesting shops which are offering specials.

Come to Mount Washington Saturday to catch a break from the heat, enjoy the breeze, and some fabulous art. This week, like every week, brings talented artists. There will be trendy t-shirts, all natural candles, one of a kind jewelry, and many other creations.

Also, the Redeemer on the Mount Church is taking part in The Great American Bake Sale to help fight youth hunger in America. Come enjoy some of the homemade treats for a great cause!

Art Marketplace Kicks Off Saturday May 29th

The time of year has come again to liven things up with our annual Mount Washington Art Marketplace. This summer we plan to ramp up our offering and include more artists and performances each week. The marketplace will be held every Saturday from 11am to 6pm (weather permitting) until Saturday, September 4, 2010. Be sure to visit this website each week to see which artists and musicians will be featured. If you would like to reserve a table or perform, contact Greg Panza, Mount Washington Community Development Corporation’s Program Manager at gpanza@mwcdc.org.

3rd Annual Light Up Night !!

What better place to admire the view of the City glowing in its holiday splendor? Mount Washington of course! That is why for three years now the businesses in the Mount Washington’s Main Street area have been building a Light up Night of its own to complement the activities going on Downtown.

This year will be like none other with quality decoration schemes around the business district which were sponsored by local businesses such as Redbeard’s, DiFiores Ice Cream and a few others.

On Friday November 20th there will be a special appearance by Santa Claus to help trim the tree. Holiday performances will be done by Susan Borowski, and the Duquesne University Performance Notes Ensemble & Spotlight Musical Theatre. Don’t miss the indoor art marketplace in 225 Shiloh Street with DJ, tours of the latest renovation of 221 Shiloh Street which will be showcasing a brand spanking new business to the street!! Boggs Avenue and Southern Avenue Businesses will be on board too such as Exile Cycle Shop, Shay’s Boutique and J.V. Raschi’s Treasures. There is something to do for everyone! Fun starts at 5:00 and wraps up around 9pm. However, there are numerous specials being offered by 17 businesses, some running all night long, so be sure to make Mount Washington part of your Light Up Night plans. See you there!!

Mount Washington FlickR Walk Submissions due October 16th

The first Mount Washington FlickR event took place last weekend on Saturday and Sunday October 3rd and 4th. However, we would like to open up the photo contest another weekend so that we can have all submissions by Friday October 16th.

Do a search for Mount Washington on the internet, and you are bombared with ever so slightly different shots of Pittsburgh’s beautiful skyline and three rivers, but did you know that their is more to Mount Washington? That is why we decided on the theme “Beyond the View” for our photo walk.

Take a look at the attached pdf mtwashingtonflickr2 for more details on the event, contest and details on how to submit your photos for judging. We plan to have a showing of the photos and contest winners for our upcoming Light Up Night Event on Friday, November 20,2009.

The walk is rain or shine and can take place day or night. You are encouraged to shoot within the suggested boundaries and try to capture Mount Washington life. For those who would like to talk with other photographers particpating in the walk, or have any questions, Stop by Packs and Dogs at 225 Shiloh Street around 1:00 on October 3rd. Ask for me, Greg Panza, MWCDC Mainstreet Manager and perhaps relax and enjoy Chilli dog, fries, and maybe one or two of over 400 craft beers.

The weather is looking fine this weekend once again making conditions perfect for a trip to Mt. Washington. The musical guests are worth the trip alone such as Brent Malin Playing on Grandview Avenue and Shiloh Street on Saturday from 1-4 and Peter Toriello on Sunday from 1-4.

Labor Day Weekend is here after a fast summer but the sun will still be shining bright and viewing conditions from Grandview Avenue will be exceptional. However, as we like like to say in Mt.
